A sweeping overview of contemporary art films as well as an epic saga of the transformative powers of the ocean.
'Superb!' –The Daily Telegraph London
This ‘not to be missed’ film tracks Dutch emigrant Bas Jan Ader's emergence in the radical art scene of the 1960s. Using rare archival footage and breakthrough interviews with Ader's contemporaries and the new generation of artists he inspired, the documentary follows Ader all the way to his final recorded moments, when he climbed into a 12 foot sailboat in the US to set sail for Europe alone, claiming that the voyage would take him 3 months if he chose to use the sail, and 6 months if he decided to let the current take him. The story is recounted through the eyes of fellow emigrant Rene Daalder.
